Caramelized onions burger

  • 4-6 AlWadi’s Jumbo Burger patties
  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • salt and pepper


  • On medium heat, heat the butter and olive oil on a large skillet.
  • Add the onions, salt, pepper, thyme and bay leaf. Fry quickly on a medium heat for 20 minutes or until onions are caramelized and stir occasionally.
  • Add broth, brown sugar, and balsamic vinegar. Stir with a spoon until sugar dissolves.
  • Lower the heat to very low, keep warm until ready to serve.
  • Grill the burger patties on the grill or on a medium-high heat for 5 minutes then flip and grill for another 5 minutes. Add the cheese shortly before the patties are done grilling.
  • Place the grilled patties on the bun, add your caramelized onions, and garnish with fresh arugula leaves.
